U14 KENT SCHOOLS VS WEST GLAMORGAN – NATIONAL CUP QUARTER FINAL
12th January 2019
We arrived in Canterbury knowing that a win would take us into the semi-final of the National Cup. We were all fired up for the game and we knew that we could get the win. We started the game extremely strongly and West Glamorgan couldn’t get out of their own half as we won every ball but just couldn’t finish our chances until we got a penalty which was won and converted by Finley Cotton to make it 1-0 to Kent. We then had endless chances and we just couldn’t convert however Rashid Tijani managed to go past their defence and score to make it 2-0. Just before half time Elliot Nimmo took a long throw into the box that Daniel Kanu touched down and scored with his left foot to put Kent 3-0 up at half time.
We started the second half very strongly and were all over West Glamorgan and soon Rashid Tijani headed in to make it 4-0. We were dominant and soon after Harvey Welford ran down the line and beat his man and cut it back for Finley Cotton who tapped it in for his second goal of the day and Kent’s fifth goal. West Glamorgan didn’t have many chances but the defence were disciplined and dealt with everything as did Henry Sworder who was very calm on the ball. With five minutes to go we were keeping possession well and Harvey Welford got the goal he deserved with a good strike from outside the box. The final whistle went and we were into the semi-final with a very impressive 6-0 win. We await the draw on Monday to see who we will face.
