Inter-county football resumed after the Christmas / New Year holiday with five Kent teams in action. The Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16 boys’ squad travelled to Brighton where 3G pitches ensured that all games were played. In atrocious conditions, the Under 14’s maintained their 100 per cent record by winning 1-0 with a solitary second-half goal from Harry Carrigan. Kent top the southern group in the SE competition and now await news of who they will face in the regional quarter-final. The Under 15’s drew 1-1, and must now await other results to see if they qualify for the semi-finals. Kent’s goal came from a marvellous 35-yard strike from Jardell Conteh. The Under 16’s, who still have one game to play, are also in with a chance of progressing in the competition, but suffered a setback with a 1-3 defeat against Sussex, the Kent goal coming from Lucas Murrain.
Meanwhile the Kent girls’ squads were in action on the 4G at Sporting Thamesmead. Goals from Lucy Kerr and Mily Isaac (2) gave the home side a 3-1 win over Sussex, but unfortunately the Under 14’s, bidding to reach the national finals for a third successive season, lost 0-1 to Bedfordshire, despite dominating the match.
