Chris Smalling - Senior England Squad Call-Up

Tuesday, 16th November 2010

Chris Smalling continues his meteoric rise to stardom after the former Kent Schools player earned a call into the England Senior Squad for the international friendly against France at Wembley.

Three years ago Smalling was playing his football for the Kent Schools Under 18 team, and subsequently was selected to play for England Schools, both while continuing his A Level studies at Chatham Grammar School for Boys. At the start of 2008, his impressive performances in representative schools football attracted scouts from all over the country that eventually led to Gareth Southgate offering him a contract at Premiership Middlesbrough, which Chris nearly signed before making a last-minute decision to agree terms with Fulham.

Since then, the centre half's career has developed at a rapid rate and he has gone on to sign for Manchester United for a reported fee of £10 million and has represented England at Under 21 level.
