A busy day on Saturday for schools’ football in Kent saw five of the KSFA’s county teams in action, as well as the finals of three Primary Schools competitions.
Pride of place goes to the Kent Under 16 Girls’ Squad, who travelled to Reading in the ESFA County Championship, and won convincingly 12-0. The Under 14 girls, meanwhile, won their South-East group match 5-1.
There were mixed outcomes in the boys’ games away to Essex. The Under 16’s won by a solitary goal, but the Under 15’s lost 0-4, and the U14’s were defeated 1-2.
In the county finals of the three ESFA competitions for Primary Schools, almost 300 players and their parents descended on River Sports Ground in Dover, where a cold morning ensured a brisk trade in hot drinks, bacon rolls and burgers! In the boys’ competition Hurst School from Bexley won for the second year running, whilst in the girls’ event Gateway School from Dartford emerged as winners from a penalty shoot-out. The Small Schools’ Competition (for schools with fewer than 100 pupils in roll in Key Stage 2) was won by Lenham School from Maidstone. All three Kent winners will represent the county in the South-East Finals in March, when winners from the eleven other counties in the region will also be involved.
